The ancient city of Telesia (S. Salvatore Telesino, Campania, Italy) whose remains stands in a flat area at the base of Mount Pugliano is largely known for its city walls, which are an unicum in the Roman world. Among the few visible structures are two thermal bath complexes, both located in the central-western area of the ancient city: the Baths of Teseo and the Sabinian Baths. Nowadays the buildings are mostly inaccessible because of the vegetation that fully covers them. A new research project, coordinated by Professor Giuseppina Renda, aims to conduct further studies on the thermal baths of Telesia. The research is first focused on “Thermae Sabinianae”, which were excavated during the 19th century and later between the 1950’s and 1970’s and dated between the1st and the 2nd centuries C.E. The results of the last excavations were never published, it is only known that a floor mosaic representing the “Triumph of the Marine Venus” was founded. The first step of the new research has been to put off the remains of the building with the removal of the vegetation. The project now plans to carry out a new mapping of this building complex to prepare a future excavation. This poster has the task to show the first result of the cleaning and the new surveys of the area.

Abstract
This poster has the task to show the first result of the cleaning and the new surveys of the area.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
