The rapid evolution of immersive technologies has positioned the metaverse as a promising socio-technical infrastructure for knowledge management (KM). While organizations have long relied on digital platforms to centralize information and foster collaboration, project-oriented environments remain particularly challenged by knowledge fragmentation, temporary team structures, and complex multi-stakeholder dynamics. This study explores the contribution of the metaverse to KM practices through the lens of the Knowledge Cube model, focusing on how immersive environments enable the integration, conversion, and application of knowledge in project-driven contexts. Drawing on multiple case studies of organizations that have adopted metaverse-based solutions, findings reveal that the metaverse transforms KM along three critical dimensions. First, it integrates internal and external knowledge, facilitating transitions between tacit and explicit knowledge through embodied simulations and real-time interactions. Second, it bridges propositional and procedural knowledge by embedding facts, procedures, and strategic insights into experiential learning environments, thereby enhancing onboarding, role adaptation, and cross-functional collaboration. Third, it improves knowledge quality—validity, reliability, and relevance—by enabling scenario testing, virtual inspections, and auditable decision trails. Overall, the metaverse is not merely a digital novelty but a multidimensional architecture for advanced KM. It fosters contextualized understanding, strengthens organizational memory, and sustains adaptability in volatile project settings. Theoretical contributions include positioning the metaverse within established KM frameworks and extending socio-technical perspectives on organizational learning. Practically, the study highlights how immersive technologies can support project success by enhancing alignment, reducing ambiguity, and accelerating decision-making. This research underscores the strategic potential of the metaverse in reshaping knowledge practices and calls for further exploration of its integration with AI and blockchain, as well as investigation into its ethical and organizational implications.
