The essay aims at contributing to the knowledge of Renaissance reuse and interpretation of the Antique investigating the theme of ‘living in the Antique’ in the strict sense. The subject is explored by analysing the project by Baldassarre Peruzzi (1481-1536) for the transformation of the archaeological remains of the Domitian Complex in the Roman Forum in Rome into a new monastery of Santa Maria Liberatrice. The drawing, preserved at the Uffizi in Florence, has been only partially studied by the scholars and still needs adequate investigations. The essay, thus, proposes an updated investigation of the project and, by in-depth archival research, a wider exploration of the patronage, related to the Spanish ambassador in Rome, Jerónimo de Vich (1459-1535), and the relatively new and expanding Spanish order of the Conceptionist cloistered nuns.
