Abstract

This study emphasizes the critical importance of actively involving consumers into RASFF processes to improve the efficiency and transparency of this crucial system. The adoption of cutting-edge digital tools, along with consumer engagement, awareness and incentive strategies, represents a key step toward a more inclusive and effective alert system. Future research should focus on:(i) developing standardized and globally accepted consumer participatory models for food safety, exploiting the potentials of the digital transformation and testing their effectiveness in various real environments;(ii) developing and promoting policies which facilitate active citizen participation in global food safety protection (World Health Organization, 2022).
