Abstract

Academic Health Science Centers (AHSCs) play a multifaceted strategic role by fulfilling three core missions: research, teaching, and healthcare. They are currently expanding these roles to incorporate aspects of social responsibility and to enhance innovation and competitiveness. These centers are diverse in their organizational structures and operational models, making them unique in their governance. Recognized as key drivers of innovation in research, education, and healthcare, AHSCs significantly influence both competitiveness and social impact. It's crucial, therefore, to examine AHSCs from a managerial perspective, which is essential for effective governance and for assessing and evaluating the performance of each mission individually and collectively.
