Abstract: In the past decade, the bazaars of Korça and Gjirokastra, integral parts of Albania’s cultural and historical heritage, have undergone substantial transformations. Following the 1990s, these historic sites suffered degradation due to neglect, misuse, and lack of maintenance. Despite these challenges, significant progress has been made through various restoration and revitalisation projects, notably the revitalisation of the Korça Bazaar in 2015 and the Gjirokastra Bazaar in 2018. This paper examines the impact and significance of these restoration and revitalisation efforts, focusing on their effects on cultural heritage conservation, tourism development, and local economic stimulation. The study employs both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies, analysing historical documents and evaluating the cultural, economic, and urban contexts of the bazaars and their restoration interventions. By examining these factors, the research aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the achievements and challenges of the restoration and revitalisation processes. The findings will contribute to the broader field of heritage conservation and offer practical recommendations for future policies and practices related to the revitalisation and management of historical bazaars in Albania. This study underscores the importance of preserving cultural heritage while promoting sustainable economic growth and enhancing community awareness and engagement.
