Abstract

Minor historic centres represent a crucial component of Italy’s cultural heritage, yet they are often marginalized in enhancement processes and remain highly vulnerable to natural risks. The medieval village of Casertavecchia (CE), a significant example of cultural heritage in Southern Italy, exhibits a complex historical stratification that raises major conservation challenges and calls for sustainable strategies of protection and use. This paper, developed within the framework of the GeNeSis project – GestioNE del rischio SISmico per la valorizzazione turistica del Mezzogiorno – presents an integrated methodological approach combining architectural survey, typological-structural analysis, and advanced digital tools. The creation of a multi-layered information corpus and the development of an immersive virtual tour have enabled the documentation of the urban fabric while promoting inclusive accessibility. The results highlight how systematic knowledge can support seismic risk mitigation while simultaneously fostering digital, inclusive, and sustainable practices of heritage fruition, consistent with broader objectives of resilience and cultural innovation.
