Transforming abandoned railway lines into sustainable infrastructures presents an exciting opportunity to connect communities, preserve cultural heritage, and enhance ecological resilience. Specifically, the former Alifana railway, which runs through rural areas in Campania, offers an ideal space to promote innovative agricultural practices and regenerate the landscape it traverses. This study aims to analyze the potential of the project by exploring how the redevelopment of this section of land could improve biodiversity, foster connections between fragmented communities, and preserve cultural identity through innovative strategies. The work is based on a multidisciplinary approach that combines spatial analysis, ecological assessments, and the enhancement of cultural heritage, with the goal of proposing design solutions in harmony with sustainability and local identity. Potential interventions should integrate green infrastructures and sustainable food systems, aiming to increase food self-sufficiency and reduce environmental impact, making the region a model for sustainable innovation. Therefore, the redevelopment of the Alifana would preserve historical memory, encourage eco-friendly practices, and promote responsible land use, providing a model for integrated regional development.
