Abstract

Un unusual and thus understudied boundary stone, from Crispiano (Taranto), records Vespasian’s restoration of the boundaries of the municipium Tarentum in AD 77-78, in accordance with the map drawn up by Gaius Gracchus in 123 BC (the forma Gracchiana: a hapax). The reference in the Liber coloniarum 211L. to the activity of surveyors in the territory of Tarentum is now corroborated by the evidence of this boundary stone.
