The church of Sant'Ilario a Port'Aurea, located near Traiano's Arch in Benevento, dates back to the Longobard period. Archaeological surveys conducted at the site (years 2000-2002) have returned a complex stratigraphy, from Roman to contemporary times. The team of medievalist archaeologists fromVanvitelli University, under the supervision of Marcello Rotili, conducted a systematic study of the excavation data, which had long remained unpublished, and of the numerous finds, reconstructing the stratigraphic sequence of the site.
