The history of graphic design is marked by significant stages that, on several occasions, have confirmed the importance of the cultural value underlying graphic thought. In the field of graphic design, an investigation of the main guidelines contained in the numerous Futurist Manifestos signed by Fortunato Depero (from 1915 to 1937) represented mainly by the use of 'essential force lines' in the graphic composition is performed here. In addition, the conception of the new 'advertising architecture,' i.e., the design of buildings and pavilions designed in a style in tune with the graphic 'content' is evaluated.

Abstract

The history of graphic design is marked by significant stages that, on several occasions, have confirmed the importance of the cultural value underlying graphic thought. In the field of graphic design, an investigation of the main guidelines contained in the numerous Futurist Manifestos signed by Fortunato Depero (from 1915 to 1937) represented mainly by the use of 'essential force lines' in the graphic composition is performed here. In addition, the conception of the new 'advertising architecture,' i.e., the design of buildings and pavilions designed in a style in tune with the graphic 'content' is evaluated.
