The aim of this essay is to provide a dramaturgical analysis of Sophocles’ Antigone using the Aristotelian concept of περιπέτεια (Poetica 1452 a 22-23), understood as ‘reversal of the character’s intentions into their opposite’. This idea of περιπέτεια coincides with the ‘dialectic of the tragic’, which Peter Szondi (1920-1979) discusses in his Essay on the Tragic (1961).

Abstract
The aim of this essay is to provide a dramaturgical analysis of Sophocles’ Antigone using the Aristotelian concept of περιπέτεια (Poetica 1452 a 22-23), understood as ‘reversal of the character’s intentions into their opposite’. This idea of περιπέτεια coincides with the ‘dialectic of the tragic’, which Peter Szondi (1920-1979) discusses in his Essay on the Tragic (1961).File in questo prodotto:
