The law n. 778 of 1922, otherwise known as the Croce Law, was supposed to protect the landscape and to stop the uncontrolled growth and expansion of the cities, particularly in Naples. The article intends to investigate the Neapolitan and Italian cultural background and the path of approval of the law, examining the response of Naples to this law which, with Chierici' s plan, was intended to become the leader and model of new forms of protection for the preservation of the landscape.

Abstract
