Abstract

Wind energy is a valid alternative resource in place of fossil fuel to produce electricity, representing also a great contribution to reduce atmospheric pollution. This paper deals with some concerns related to the predictions of noise levels related to wi nd farms according with ISO 9613. Noise from wind farms can have negative impacts o n avifauna other than to represent visual impact for the landscape and source of electromagnetic pollution. The noise generated by the operation of the towers causes a signi ficant annoyance to residents living in the surrounding areas. This paper deals with s ome simulations and predictions that have been calculated for the sound propagation produced by wind turbines The results have been compared with the acoustic measuremen ts taken inside the closest sensitive receptor. The data recorded inside the selected residential properties have been analyzed A significant divergence between measured and predicted noise levels arise, which is often cause of legal disputes between residents and firms in charge to manage the operation of wind farms
