Having read the numerous essays contained in this volume, edited by Cecilia Bolognesi and Cettina Santagati, I can say that there are several good reasons to recommend it. First of all, a first reason is given by the topic of the title: Impact of Industry 4.0 on Architecture and Cultural Heritage; on the one hand it places the contents within the more general and current topic of Industry 4.0, on the other hand it clearly relates the interest to architecture and cultural heritage without returning the volume as highly specialized in the area of a single branch. The general structure of the book shows a strongly interdisciplinary research impact; the traditional themes of the disciplinary area of representation, related to architecture and cultural heritage, linked to the methods and techniques of knowledge (survey), visualization (representation) and communication (management and use of the data collected), intersect the more general sciences and computer technologies. All the interventions are the result of the commitment of about 50 researchers organized in teams coming from various Italian research centres (from Milan to Catania via Turin, Ferrara, L’Aquila, Naples, Aversa) and/or foreign centres both European (Greece and Bulgaria) and American (United States and Brazil). This circumstance, so varied, disciplinary and geographically, meant that the issue of the impact of Industry 4.0 on the fields of architecture and cultural heritage was debated according to a multiplicity of points of view; most of the research addressed does not only present results with respect to the set objectives, but also methods and technological performances presented.
