Through research and methodology of world history and transnational history, this volume proposes an innovative interpretation of the world transformations of the relationships between the different parts of the world through a reconsideration of the historical categories of space and time, proposing first of all the overcoming of periodization based on canon of national and European history. Through the reconsideration of chronologies and spaces and new methods of investigation, the study proposes a history of the world aimed at searching for connections that are mistakenly considered only a characteristic of the current world. A thousand years of world history in just over a thousand pages. Of the world since it was still thought to be flat, and believed to be at the center of the universe, to the present day that we see a blue dot lost in the infinity of the cosmos. A world that already a thousand years ago was interconnected and global. To make it such the men who walked it in all its extension: the Arab merchants who went as far as the coasts of Spain or the borders of India, or the Venetian ones, such as Marco Polo, who arrive in China through the 'way of silk 'and that allowed Europe to know the extraordinary reality of a wise and organized Empire located at the other end of the Planet. And then, today more than ever, it is necessary to restore dignity to the history of the civilizations and peoples that inhabited this planet and that perhaps, too long, we have relegated to the margins. It is not just a matter of making known the forgotten stories of the African and Asian empires, of whose age-old epics we also know very little, but of showing the hidden threads and bonds that unite the history of men on Earth. The story of migrations, conquests, scientific discoveries brings to light precisely this constant interconnection which erroneously appears to us as the great novelty of our time alone. An innovative work that tries to overcome traditional stories, made only of states, borders, wars. A history of the world that is probably the only possible history today.

Attraverso ricerca e metodologia di world history e di storia transnazionale, il presente volume propone un'interpretazione innovativa delle trasformazioni mondiali dei rapporti tra le diverse parti del mondo attraverso una riconsiderazione delle categorie storiche dello spazio e del tempo proponendo innanzitutto il superamento della periodizzazione basata sul canone della storia nazionale ed europea. Attraverso la riconsiderazione delle cronologie e degli spazi e a nuovi metodi di indagine, lo studio propone una storia del mondo tesa a ricercare le connessioni che erroneamente si considerano solo una caratteristica del mondo attuale. Mille anni di storia del mondo in poco più di mille pagine. Del mondo da quando ancora si pensava fosse piatto, e lo si riteneva al centro dell’universo, a oggi che ci appare un puntino blu perso nell’infinità del cosmo. Un mondo che già mille anni fa era interconnesso e globale. A renderlo tale gli uomini che lo percorrevano in tutta la sua estensione: i mercanti arabi che si spingevano fino alle coste della Spagna o ai confini dell’India, o quelli veneziani, come Marco Polo, che in Cina ci arrivano attraverso la ‘via della seta’ e che consentirono all’Europa di conoscere la straordinaria realtà di un Impero sapiente e organizzato posto all’altro capo del Pianeta. E allora, oggi più che mai, è necessario restituire dignità alla storia delle civiltà e dei popoli che hanno abitato questo pianeta e che forse, troppo a lungo, abbiamo relegato ai margini. Non si tratta solo di far conoscere le storie dimenticate degli imperi africani e asiatici, delle cui epopee secolari pure sappiamo pochissimo, ma di mostrare i fili e i legami nascosti che uniscono la storia degli uomini sulla Terra. Il racconto di migrazioni, conquiste, scoperte scientifiche porta alla luce proprio questa costante interconnessione che ci appare erroneamente come la grande novità del solo nostro tempo. Un’opera innovativa, che prova a superare le storie tradizionali, fatte solo di Stati, di confini, di guerre. Una storia del mondo che è oggi probabilmente l’unica storia possibile.
