The latest research carried out on the roman colony of Sena Gallica allowed the definition of a first typology of the pavements that characterized the Adriatic centre during the Republican Roman Age. Starting from levelled clayed surfaces with sandstone fragments, dating across the 3rd century BC, the evolution moves progressively to the employment of pavements in cementizio with different figurative and geometric ornaments (reticulated with rombus, irregular dotting and scutulatum). At the present stage of the re- search, the attestations of mosaic pavements are limited to very rare cases. The main urban archaeological context that provided relevant examples of mosaics is the roman residential area discovered under the Teatro “La Fenice”, which represents an important touchstone for the contemporary productions of middle-Adriatic area. The technical and stylistic analysis here discussed has implied the comparison of the samples from Sena Gallica with the data known for the other Republican colonies, enabling us to recognize in the analysed pavements the distinctive marks of the Roman colonization.

Abstract
The technical and stylistic analysis here discussed has implied the comparison of the samples from Sena Gallica with the data known for the other Republican colonies, enabling us to recognize in the analysed pavements the distinctive marks of the Roman colonization.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
