This contribution provides several examples of reuse of Roman bricks in ancient buildings in Benevento. During the archaeological excavations conducted in the four year period 2004-2007 by the DiLBeC (University of Campania), in agreement with the Archaeological Superintendency and under the scientific direction of Marcello Rotili, have been studied and classified the walls of several Roman structures, as well as buildings and stretches of the city wall of the late antique and medieval period. Currently the brick walls of the Church of Santa Sofia are being analysed. From the study, which uses traditional methods of archaeology for standing structures, such as photogrammetric survey, stratigraphic reconstruction and mensiochronology, there has emerged a complex chrono-typology of brick production in Benevento.
