The present paper addresses the case of a former industrial site replaced by a knowledge-intensive hub belonging to a Higher Education Institution, i.e. the “Federico II” University Hub settled in the San Giovanni a Teduccio suburb of the city on Naples (Italy), herein referred to as the San Giovanni Hub (SGH). The aim of the study is to assess how innovation and knowledge transfer mechanisms engendered by the SGH can facilitate a contribution to the University third mission, by detecting the most relevant performance indicators in terms of innovation, knowledge transfer and university engagement mechanisms.
