The paper wants to present a work of analysis on the representation of the territory and the landscape through the analysis of some pictorial images produced in the Middle Ages that must recall to the attention that man had to lend in antiquity observing the places where he lived. But in parallel to the descriptive aspect of the lands known at that time also has a function of warning: the wastes, the unknown and unknown lands, communicating to the observer the wonders of civilization, offer an exhortation of the doctrine from Follow for individual improvement. The pictorial representations did not want to be limited to depicting the world known at the time, offering an account of the physical reality, but that of offering a vision of the world and of the life of the medieval man, influenced by the sacred texts, the legends of the imagination.
