he present contributions is focused on some results from the analysis of pottery of VIII and IX centuries, found during the excavation in benevento in the area around the arch of sacramento, which has, indeed, a crucial relevance to understand the processes of urban reorganization of the town in Late Antiquity. Despite the arrival of foreign social components, the examined archeological finds of early Middle Ages show both a substantial morphological continuity with the productions dating back to Late Antiquity and the total absence of any element of the Germanic tradition. As noted also in other archaeological contexts, in facts, Lombards settled in southern Italy used products of local workshops, most likely due to the absence of specialized potters and changes in style and uses.
