Transformation of museums and universities, into run facilities on managerial logic of the business culture basis, changes their organizational forms, methods of self-financing, communication. This “revolution”, seen by some as a commodification of culture and by others as a rejuvenation of state apparatus, offers new chances to the design culture. Merchandising, a still underestimated aspect of this process, can be an opportunity for designers to rethink a type of product mortified by the overexposure of logos, giving rise to objects with a dual function - practical and evocative - inspired by art (for museums) and places (for universities), resulting from a “conferment of sense” (Assunto, 1973).
La trasformazione dei musei e delle università in strutture gestite con logiche manageriali ne modifica forme organizzative, metodi di autofinanziamento, comunicazione. Questa “rivoluzione”, vista da alcuni come mercificazione della cultura e da altri come uno svecchiamento di apparati dello Stato, offre nuove opportunità alla cultura del design. Il merchandising, un aspetto ancora sot- tovalutato di questo processo, può costituire per i designer l’occa- sione per ripensare una tipologia di prodotti mortificata dalla so- vra-esposizione dei loghi, dando vita ad oggetti a doppia funzione - pratica ed evocativa - ispirati all’arte (per i musei) e ai luoghi (per le università), scaturiti da un “conferimento di senso” (Assunto, 1973).
