The fort of Gavi, a medieval complex pre-existence transformed in the seventeenth century “to modern” with subsequent and significant interventions in the eighteenth century, is the object of study. The aim of the research is to demonstrate the fort’s role in the territorial system of European defense; describe the functional and morphological reorganization on an architectural, urban and territorial scale; to propose new digital communication technologies for enhancing the value of the fort in cultural tourism. The architectural and environmental specificities of the fort will be analyzed through a filing methodology oriented to frame the fort in a comparative network for defensive types, profiles of the protagonists, periodization, mappings, etc., while respecting the theoretical-disciplinary foundations and methodologies of graphic analysis of the drawing (which make it possible to confirm it as a privileged laboratory in the scientific investigation of artifact and natural heritage) and through the examination of a wide range of iconographic sources, drawings will be drawn up to highlight similarities and differences between planimetric schemes, adequately selected from the sources and compared with each other on the basis of the periodization of the events. Using the most recent innovations in the field of multimedia communication of heritage, the most advanced online dissemination technologies and interaction via digital interface, another use of the fort will be proposed through cultural tourism. This opportunity will also be proposed based on possible simulations, assisted by virtual and augmented reality, to actualize the Gavi fortress in a digital network of 'cultural defense' of the territory in favor and completion of the current museum layout.
