The volume contains an initial overview of a research and critical analysis work on the contemporary scenarios of graphics in China. Started in 1998, the research is still ongoing and has seen, to date, over 100 designers mapped. The book traces the profiles and a critical reading of 17 designers selected among these, and wants to be only the first step of a project still in progress. The attempt is not only to trace a map of the Chinese designers, but rather to give back a historical, critical and linguistic reconstruction to a context, the Chinese one, which is increasingly opening itself towards an international market, to its cultures and to its contamination.

Abstract

The volume contains an initial overview of a research and critical analysis work on the contemporary scenarios of graphics in China. Started in 1998, the research is still ongoing and has seen, to date, over 100 designers mapped. The book traces the profiles and a critical reading of 17 designers selected among these, and wants to be only the first step of a project still in progress. The attempt is not only to trace a map of the Chinese designers, but rather to give back a historical, critical and linguistic reconstruction to a context, the Chinese one, which is increasingly opening itself towards an international market, to its cultures and to its contamination.
