Open Air Rooms

Open Air Rooms is the book / catalog that accompanies Cherubino Gambardella's exhibition "Open Air Rooms: The Architecture of the Mediterranean from Malaparte to the Contemporary World" exhibited in the Gallery of the Italian Cultural Institute - Chicago, an integral part of the Chicago program Architecture Biennial (CAB) 2017-2018. Open Air Rooms is a collection of 14 collages set in a picture gallery that resembles the shape of a starfish. The juxtaposition of ancient and modern architectures that interact by integrating into a new architectural fabric lends itself to interpreting in a fitting way the theme "Make New History", theme of CAB 2017-2018, suggesting the overcoming of the dialectic between history and modernity in the aesthetic sublimation of collage , which creates a “new story”.

Open Air Rooms è il libro/catalogo che accompagna la mostra di Cherubino Gambardella “Open Air Rooms: The Architecture of the Mediterranean from Malaparte to the Contemporary World” esposta nella Galleria dell’Istituto Italiano di Cultura – Chicago, parte integrante del programma della Chicago Architecture Biennial (CAB) 2017-2018. Open Air Rooms è una raccolta di 14 collages incastonati in una quadreria che ricorda la forma di una stella marina. La giustapposizione di architetture antiche e moderne che dialogano integrandosi in un nuovo tessuto architettonico si presta ad interpretare in maniera calzante il tema “Make New History”, tema del CAB 2017-2018 suggerendo il superamento della dialettica fra storia e modernità nella sublimazione estetica del collage, che crea appunto una “nuova storia”.
