The article deals with the issue of the evaluation of the impacts resulting from Cultural Heritage Valorization - or Historic Preservation -. If the Cultural Heritage is a “lever for economic and social development”, more and more the cultural policies need of mainly advanced evaluation methodologies to assess the outputs of the valorization activities on the local economy (cultural, economic, and social ones such as employment, tourism, property values, tax, system, etc.) Starting from an overview of the actual studies and reports in Italy, and specifically, in Campania Region, the article wants highlight the efficacy and the relevance of the Preservation Economic Impact Model (“PEIM”)*, created by Rutgers University Center for Urban Policy and implemented in several USA states. Despite the different availability and quality of the data in the Italian statistical system, an effort to better understand the relationship between valorization/historic preservation and economics should be made in in the perspective of the “multiplier effect”.
