In this study, the influence of construction materials of a typical Italian single-family residential application, located in Italy, was analyzed from both energy and economic point of views. In particular, the differences between a brick and a wood house, characterized by the same thermal transmittances and internal volumes, were evaluated by varying the climatic conditions (three different Italian cities representative of different climatic regions of Italy were considered). The performances of the two construction materials were investigated by means of dynamic simulations. The comparison between the two buildings was performed in terms of primary energy consumption as well as operating costs in order to evaluate the potential benefits associated to the wood house with respect to the brick house.
