Colloid-polymer mixtures exhibit a rich phase behavior including reentrance of the liquid-glass transition line, multiple glassy states and glass-glass transition. Such features can be studied in detail via a statistical physics framework in which the colloid-polymer mixture is modelled as an assembly of hard-sphere particles with short-range attraction in a space with large dimensionality. Our analytic approach correctly reproduces the observed phase behavior and holds promise for the exploration of more complex intermolecular potentials.

Abstract
Colloid-polymer mixtures exhibit a rich phase behavior including reentrance of the liquid-glass transition line, multiple glassy states and glass-glass transition. Such features can be studied in detail via a statistical physics framework in which the colloid-polymer mixture is modelled as an assembly of hard-sphere particles with short-range attraction in a space with large dimensionality. Our analytic approach correctly reproduces the observed phase behavior and holds promise for the exploration of more complex intermolecular potentials.File in questo prodotto:
