According on the partial available data, the project methodology for the urban central areasof Canton is carrying out through punctual exemplars projects then following a global plan aimed to the requalification and rehabilitation of GuangfuYuan district. In order to increase the environmental standards and the urban quality, we point on remake a rational distribution, on improve ventilation and illumination of old buidings, with heat-saving actions, saving the typical architectonic features of the area. In order to make functional and more actractive the GuangfuHuan district we are mixing restoration and trasformation designs, to care of historical and typological characters of old buildings, and underline the originary identity of this part of Guangzou. In order to balance the demolitions necessary to create new open public spaces and squares, the plan proposes volumetric increasing and infilling of new dense-compacted solutions with functional mixture of housing, commercial spaces and service ACTION 1. Distributive typolgical rationalitation localizing the commercial spaces at ground floors and housing spaces at upper floors; -carrying out interiors “patios” to improve the lighting and ventilation of the old buildings;-infilling of wind chimneys. ACTION 2. The plan proposes an ecologycal green corridor recovering the depth of the old channel-street, becoming the support of a technological energy saving grid. The actual buildings will be replaced with a pedestrian green path, positioned on a long podium appointed to commercial spaces, services and small squares. In this new urban ribbon the plan carries out through an Old Town Centre Management, following European and Italian experiences merge of Commercial, handicraft, touristic, and service activities- associating in one or more trading district, also the closing builded areas facing the green corridor. ACTION 3. The horizontal widening admit to open new streets and squares decreasing the depth of the blocks and creating new street-front flats. The plan is stdying different penetrations system (longitudinal and transversal paths) in the compact urban blocks, connected to volumetric increasing in highness to recover flats avoiding the expultion of former inhabitants. As advantages we will afford a more efficient viability -new paths for commercial road-network ventilations and illumination improvements, rational separation/share between commercial and housing areas.
