To analyse the earthquake-induced subsidence of the Bisaccia hill (Southern Italy), laboratory tests were carried out on reconstituted and undisturbed samples of highly plastic intensely fissured clay shales taken from the subsoil. The investigation included cyclic-dynamic simple shear and cyclic triaxial tests. The results of the cyclic triaxial tests allowed to define the volumetric threshold strain and to carefully describe and interpret the processes of cyclic degradation and pore pressure accumulation. The results obtained on the undisturbed sample showed the strong influence of fissures on the soil behaviour.

Abstract
To analyse the earthquake-induced subsidence of the Bisaccia hill (Southern Italy), laboratory tests were carried out on reconstituted and undisturbed samples of highly plastic intensely fissured clay shales taken from the subsoil. The investigation included cyclic-dynamic simple shear and cyclic triaxial tests. The results of the cyclic triaxial tests allowed to define the volumetric threshold strain and to carefully describe and interpret the processes of cyclic degradation and pore pressure accumulation. The results obtained on the undisturbed sample showed the strong influence of fissures on the soil behaviour.File in questo prodotto:
