A bed of natural olivine was used during the gasification of a plastic waste in a pilot plant bubbling fluidized bed reactor. The olivine remarkably improves the quality of the product gas, in terms of low tar content, high hydrogen volume fractions and large syngas yield. It also produces a certain amount of solid carbon that deposits on bed particles and depletes their catalytic activity by saturating and masking the active sites. In order to maintain a steady- state regime and an efficient in-situ tar reduction during the gasification process a simple algorithm, based on experimental data, is proposed.

Abstract

A bed of natural olivine was used during the gasification of a plastic waste in a pilot plant bubbling fluidized bed reactor. The olivine remarkably improves the quality of the product gas, in terms of low tar content, high hydrogen volume fractions and large syngas yield. It also produces a certain amount of solid carbon that deposits on bed particles and depletes their catalytic activity by saturating and masking the active sites. In order to maintain a steady- state regime and an efficient in-situ tar reduction during the gasification process a simple algorithm, based on experimental data, is proposed.
