Mitigation of the risk of flowslides is a heavy task because of the uncertainties existing about prediction of landslide occurrence and of the features of the landslide body. In fact, monitoring cannot solve all concerned problems because of the lack of reliable indicators and of the abruptness of rupture. Hence, physical modelling takes a crucial role, since it can provide useful information about the mechanics of slope failure and of post-rupture evolution. This is the main content of this report which deals with flowslides occurring in granular soils. Special reference is paid to recent cases of flowslides in the Campania Region, Southern Italy, which provoked severe damages and hundreds of deaths.

Abstract
Mitigation of the risk of flowslides is a heavy task because of the uncertainties existing about prediction of landslide occurrence and of the features of the landslide body. In fact, monitoring cannot solve all concerned problems because of the lack of reliable indicators and of the abruptness of rupture. Hence, physical modelling takes a crucial role, since it can provide useful information about the mechanics of slope failure and of post-rupture evolution. This is the main content of this report which deals with flowslides occurring in granular soils. Special reference is paid to recent cases of flowslides in the Campania Region, Southern Italy, which provoked severe damages and hundreds of deaths.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
