Stress field in the block paving systems depend on many factors. Among these there are: the block thickness, the stiffness of the sand joint connecting blocks, the sand bed stiffness, the type of base used (bonded or not) and the interface condition between adjacent layers. In this papers we report a study aimed at examining the influence of these factors. It has been carried out using a structural model very close to reality. In order to evaluate the sand joint stiffness required in the model we used adequate experimental procedure. The results obtained show that the most important factor is the type of base, then the block thikness. The other factors have lower influence.

Abstract
Stress field in the block paving systems depend on many factors. Among these there are: the block thickness, the stiffness of the sand joint connecting blocks, the sand bed stiffness, the type of base used (bonded or not) and the interface condition between adjacent layers. In this papers we report a study aimed at examining the influence of these factors. It has been carried out using a structural model very close to reality. In order to evaluate the sand joint stiffness required in the model we used adequate experimental procedure. The results obtained show that the most important factor is the type of base, then the block thikness. The other factors have lower influence.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
