A comparative study to evaluate the influence of the design ductility class according to the Eurocodes both on the distribution of the steel bars and stirrups and on the non linear response (damage, losing functionality, structural collapse) under very strong earthquakes was carried out. A non linear fiber element model for the static and the dynamic analysis of the structure was considered, and structural and non structural damage functionals were introduced to characterize the global plastic behaviour.
