Some different simplified procedures for the evaluation of the nonlinear response of r.c. buildings were investigated. At first, starting from the static nonlinear (push-over) analysis the capacity curve was evaluated and the equivalent SDOF system was defined. Then the approximate procedures were described in detail and applied to a r.c. building under different earthquakes. Finally the static displacement responses were compared with the “exact” response obtained from the nonlinear dynamic analysis of the multistorey building.
