Uno specchio con Lasa dalla necropoli di Monte Abatone a Cerveteri

A mirror with a figure of “Lasa” from the necropolis of “Monte Abatone” in Cerveteri. This paper examines a Hellenistic tomb (169) of the Necropolis of Monte Abatone in Cerveteri where an unfortunately fragmented mirror was found with the depiction of Lasa. This is a very interesting finding not only because the Necropolis of Monte Abatone restored very few mirrors, but also because in Cerveteri Lasa mirrors are generally rare and often out of context. The Lasa depicted on our mirror can be compared with the same figure of two others mirrors, one from Volterra and another from Viterbo, tomb 1, loc. San Nicolao, suggesting that the production process occurred in one specific workshop, probably in the first half of the third century B.C. The chronology is confirmed by the same grave 169. The above-mentioned mirrors seem to represent a transition between the finest types with ivory handles and the ones with cast handles. In addition, the analysis of the context of grave 169 has allowed us to compose a picture of the types of Hellenistic pottery in Cerveteri, especially the plain and black ones.
