Sguardi su Capri. Moda e rappresentazioni di un’icona dell’immaginario contemporaneo

Capri has always been, in the widest sense, a “trendy” and “fashionable” place, known in the international arena both for its breath-taking landscapes and its evocations of desirable lifestyles. Since the 1950s, Capri has been transformed from a holiday destination for the elite into a media phenomenon, through a genesis and development that have only recently been studied in detail, from a critical point of view. In the current study we analyse these issues through iconographic and documentary sources of various kinds, from which it is possible to infer a deeper cultural significance than the phenomenon assumes in the scenario of visual languages and customs of the 20th century. Identifying the relationships between characters, events and images, which at first glance are not obvious, enables an original interpretation of the key stages of the history of this icon of the 20th century imagery, where tourism, customs and the cultural and environmental milieu merge and manifest themselves in a singular narrative dimension.
