This study of geometric ornamental designs in the mosaic floors found in Pompeian houses stems from the idea of creating an interactive and computerised conceptual map which can enable users to find their way through the vast range of themes and to learn not just about existing individual types but also to be able to compare them according to thematic categories. It also makes it possible to combine this approach with an animation of the drawing which can explain and provide a visual reconstruction of the geometric reasons for the numerous formal configurations of the catalogued types through the analysis of the geometric symmetries present in the mosaics. Through the use of computerised graphics for the analysis, the cataloguing, communication and examination of the material has made it possible to organise the data and investigate it using various approaches, to show the dynamic process of the geometric configuration of the catalogued ornamental motifs, as well as to design digital games by manipulating these ornamental designs. The final result is contained in an interactive computerised system which combines a series of carefully organised and implementable data-banks employing the computerised geo-referenced technology of GIS.
